Typically Windows automatically attempts to locate broken shortcut targets by searching all paths that are associated with it. This tweak disables that functionality.
Open the Windows Registry Editor (regedit.exe) by clicking Start, then Run, then in the open box type regedit and click OK.
Browse your registry and find the key:
To enable this setting:
Create a new (or modify the existing) Dword value called NoResolveTrack, and set the value to 1.
To reset this setting to the default value:
Highlight the value NoResolveTrack and click Edit > Delete in the menu bar.
Close the Registry Editor by clicking File > Exit in the menu bar.
To activate this tweak please close all instances of explorer.exe, or wait until the next reboot.
