Findings combines the best of a research assistant and a lab notebook. No more paper! Your research notes are always with you and always up to date, be it on the field, at your desk, at the bench, or at a conference. Findings helps you browse your results, reproduce crucial experiments, and assemble and publish your discoveries. Findings for Mac is even more powerful when used in combination with Findings for iOS (free companion app).
ENTRIES. All your experiments, research notes and meeting notes are in one place. See what you have planned for today and this week. You can follow your progress, edit your experiment conditions, and never forget a step. Findings lets you organize your entries based on status, or into collections for research projects, collaborations, reports,... All in one place, easy to browse and search, always saved.
ATTACHMENTS. With Findings, your research files are right where they belong, within the corresponding entry, copied in your library: no more accidental deletion, no more editing of the wrong file, no more cloud incantation. Any file can be an attachment: image, spreadsheet, ruby script, molecule structure, etc. Preview with QuickLook, show in the Finder or edit in your favorite application. Findings also has built-in tables for quick data entry.
JOURNAL. Based on all your entries, Findings generates a lab notebook automatically, in PDF format, that you can directly access from the app or your disk. Your research journal literally prints itself out! And if you need more control, you can just as easily print the entries of your choice, for the dates of your choice.
PROTOCOLS. Procedures, processes, recipes, guides... They have a special place in Findings, where you can browse, edit, organize and share them with others in the lab, or with the rest of the world. When you add a protocol to an experiment, a copy is made, so you can modify it without affecting the original.
SHARING AND COLLABORATING. Your research should not be in a silo. Findings can easily export any subset or all of your experiments and protocols to PDF, with all the attachments neatly arranged in folders. With our smart export/import features, you can also collaborate directly with Findings, and choose what to share, when and with whom.
SYNC. Automatically sync to Dropbox to shar your Findings documents on all your devices. Unlike most electronic lab notebooks (ELN), your data remains under your control. Experiments and protocols are stored in an open-source format (PARStore) and are always with you, even when offline.
Findings 2 has a brand new look and tons of new features:Entry types. All your notes go in entries of different types: experiments, meeting notes (for lab meetings, conferences,...), research notes (bibliography, grant preparation,...), stickies (quick tasks, todo lists,...), standalone timers.
Entry status. With more nuanced options, so you can better organize your work: ongoing, in review, completed, signed, deferred or aborted.
Collections. Organize your entries and protocols into collections & sub-collections. It's the most flexible way to sort your work, and it's all up to you!
Three-pane navigation. The interface will feel familiar to all macOS users, yet embraces the new distinctive look of Findings, and is all geared towards your research needs. Go from the left sidebar, to select entries and protocols, by type, status, collection, etc., through the list of documents in the middle, to the editor on the right for the selected entry or protocol.
Journal. Findings 2 automatically create PDFs with all your entries, organized in chronological order, easily accessible from Findings or from your disk. This means you always have a nice output of your work, easy to share or browse, from anywhere and for anyone.
Powerful printing and PDF export. Findings 2 adds a ton of options for the creation of PDFs. You can print selected days, combine multiple entries, choose any paper size, and more. All the options are available for printing, exporting to PDF, or the journal feature.
Attachment Templates. Now it's easier than ever to insert a new attachment into an entry. You can noew access a list of template files and make a copy of the file you need without leaving the document. It is very easy to customize the list of templates to tune it to your specific needs.
Attachment Actions. Hover on an attachment preview to quicklook, edit, show in Finder, or copy the image preview to the clipboard. Also, in the Entry or Protocol menu (in the top menu bar), we have added a convenient 'Reveal In Finder' item to quickly get to all your attachments on disk.
Document windows. Just double-click on an entry or protocol to open an entry or protocol in its own window.
Community. The new Findings community site is a great resource for users: forums, how-to, support, feedback, news. It's on the web (community.findingsapp.com), and it's in the app, under the menu Help > Community... or just click the bathyscaphe icon in the top bar.
